Emily is an associate at Hartsell & Williams, P.A., and began working at the firm shortly after graduating from Elon University School of Law. Emily is a Charlotte native, with her family moving to Concord right before she started high school. Emily graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a degree in Sociology. Prior to attending law school, Emily lived in Minnesota for a year, during which she participated in AmeriCorps. In her AmeriCorps program, Emily taught and implemented social and emotional learning skills in local preschools for lower socioeconomic families. It was during this time that Emily developed her skills in using empathy and compassion to make human connections with clients and to help those around her.
At Elon, Emily participated in pro bono organizations such as the Innocence Project, where she strengthened her writing, reading, and attention to detail skills and used them to review cases and argue for new trials for those who may have otherwise fallen through the cracks. Often times, clients are in an emotional or crisis situation, and Emily is able to draw on her experiences and skills to recognize and understand this and advocate for her clients.
While she is not working, Emily enjoys spending time with friends and family. She also loves watching sports, going to Carolina Panthers games, and taking day trips to the beach or mountains with her Pit/Lab mix, Violet.
