Michael also has a history of working in the governmental arena, serving as the town attorney for Midland, NC, providing legal services during its formation and first years of incorporation and continuing to assist legally for several years after.
While many aspects of his daily workload deal with impersonal contractual negotiations, he has discovered over the years that he is motivated more by his passion for helping those in need, citing this as his biggest source of satisfaction professionally. One of his areas of specialization, social security disability, is particularly gratifying for this reason, allowing him to help people secure the benefits they deserve.
Michael graduated from Duke University in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He initially considered a career as a doctor, but realized later on during his undergraduate studies that it was the sociological aspect of medicine that he found most intriguing. This interest led him to write his senior thesis on the ethics of genetic testing and the use of gene sequencing in high profile criminal casesand would eventually prompt him to attend Georgetown and pursue law. Michael graduated from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1998.
He relocated to the Cabarrus County, North Carolina area after graduation, moved to Concord, North Carolina in 2000 and has been active in the community ever since, serving as the vice chairman of the Cabarrus County Education Foundation since 2001. Michael and his wife Erin have two sons, Declan and Kaden. During his time away from work and community involvement, he enjoys rooting for the Carolina Panthers and the Duke University football team, as well as playing tennis with his oldest son.
